Zulkifli Noordin Walks Out Of PKR Disciplinary Hearing
PETALING JAYA, March 4 (Bernama) -- Kulim Bandar Baharu Member of Parliament (MP) Zulkifli Noordin Thursday walked out of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) disciplinary board hearing on the use of the word "Allah", in protest of the case being heard by non-Muslim members in the panel.
He said the action was taken based on his stand not to allow or recognise non-Muslim panel to discuss matters regarding Islam.
"Although I was ready to answer all the allegations and enter my defence, I just cannot accept and allow a non-Muslim panel to judge me regarding matters of my religion. That's why I walked out," he told a press conference about 30 minutes after the hearing.
Zulkifli said of the four panel members, only Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kaber, who also led the panel, was a Muslim, while three others were Christian activists Goh Keat Peng and Chew Swee Yoke, and a Hindu devotee, T.Kumar.
While acknowledging the credibility and racial integrity of the panel members, he said it was only right for the party to respect his requests to be heard by an all Muslim panel as stated in his three earlier notices.
"I have given them ample time to consider my request and they wanted until today. Meanwhile, I have also made a request to the secretary-general's office to review the panel and appoint only Muslims as its members," he said.
The MP was referred to the board following the police report he lodged against Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad of PAS regarding the use of the word "Allah".
When asked why he had yet to leave the party, Zulkifli said:
"I still have patience. I still have faith in the party leadership."
Nevertheless, Zulkifli believed that today's incident was an ill-intended scam mounted by the 'little pharaohs' in PKR to defame and humiliate him and Islam, to ensure that he would be sacked from the party.
"If they want to sack me, at least let justice be done, or seen to be done.
Justice is for me to be heard by my fellow Muslims because this matter involves the use of the word "Allah"," he said.
He also insisted that the existing panel be dissolved and a new all Muslim panel be set up.
"I'm willing to face the new panel at any given time," he added.
